November 18- PRE-BUDGET COMMITTEE CALLS FOR RENEWED ARTS FUNDING
VICTORIA -- Following a formal submission from the BC Arts Council, the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services has unanimously recommended that the Province restore funding to the arts to 2008/09 levels.

November 17- BRITISH COLUMBIANS HONOURED AT THE GG LITERARY AWARDS
OTTAWA – Three writers with BC roots are winners of the 2009 Governor General’s Literary Awards, announced today by the Canada Council for the Arts.

VICTORIA - B.C. artists Leon Bibb, Roy Akira Miki and Dolores Kirkwood have received the Order of British Columbia, while Vancouver's Judith Marcuse has won the prestigious Jacqueline Lemieux Prize.

VICTORIA - Individual artists and arts organizations across B.C. will receive $5.1 million in BC Arts council grants, announced Tourism, Culture and the Arts Minister Kevin Krueger and Rich Coleman, Minister of Housing and Social Development today.

June 24 - B.C. ARTIST WINS PRESTIGIOUS MOLSON PRIZE
OTTAWA -- Vancouver visual artist Ian Wallace has won a Canada Council for the Arts Molson Prize. The prize, worth $50,000, is one of two Molson prizes that are awarded yearly to distinguished Canadians, one in the arts and the other in the social sciences or humanities. The prizes recognize the recipients’ outstanding lifetime achievements and ongoing contributions to the cultural and intellectual life of Canada.

June 10 - PREMIER APPOINTS KEVIN KRUEGER AS MINISTER RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ARTS
VICTORIA - On June 10, 2009, Premier Gordon Campbell appointed Kamloops-South Thompson MLA Kevin Krueger as Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts. “Arts and culture play a key role in making B.C. such an attractive place to live, work and visit. I believe that a strong and vibrant arts sector is essential to attracting business, industry and tourism to B.C.” said Krueger.

June 5 - AWARDS CELEBRATE B.C. FIRST NATIONS ART
VANCOUVER – Five B.C. First Nations artists were named as the recipients of the 2009 BC Creative Achievement Awards for Aboriginal Art today by Premier Gordon Campbell and Keith Mitchell, chair of the British Columbia Achievement Foundation.

VICTORIA – The Province of British Columbia has granted $390,000 to the latest round of the Aboriginal Arts Development Awards, a significant increase over last year’s amount, Tourism, Culture and the Arts Minister Bill Bennett announced today.

March 23 - WINNERS OF BC150 YOUTH VIDEO CONTEST ANNOUNCED
VICTORIA – Five Grade 12 students from across the province have been chosen as winners of the BC150 Youth Video Contest announced Bill Bennett, Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, today.
