Haley Bassett is the former Executive Director, Arts North East, Sunset Prairie, B.C.; Mentor Indigenous Artist in Residence, Dawson Creek Art Gallery; and Founder/Coordinator for Northern Arts Community Development Program. Previously, she was a Writer at Northern Arts Review, and an Art Instructor at Dawson Creek Art Gallery.
Active in her community, Ms. Bassett served as a director with Arts BC and as a mentor for the Nawican Friendship Center’s Indigenous Artist in Residence Program. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the SSHRC Graduate Scholarship, Jim Prentice Memorial Endowment for Women in Remote Communities from the Banff Centre for Creativity; Indigenous Artists Program, First Peoples’ Cultural Council; Distinguished Award, Juried Regional Art Exhibition, Peace-Liard Regional Arts Council; and Opus Art Supplies Graduation Award from Emily Carr University of Art & Design (ECUAD). Ms. Bassett holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from ECUAD, and is a Master of Fine Arts candidate at ECUAD.
A member of Council since July 10, 2023, her current appointment ends August 1, 2026.
