Brian Paul McBay (he/him) is co-founder and Executive Director of 221A, a non-profit arts infrastructure organization based on xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) territories (Vancouver, BC). Under his leadership, 221A operates a growing network of over 140,000ft² across nine properties that includes non-market housing, artist studios, and public programs. Brian is a fourth-generation settler of mixed Chinese-Canadian and European descent and an advocate for the arts and the fair payment of artists. Brian was named a 2018 Fellow of the Salzburg Global Forum and has served on public sector and non-profit boards including the City of Vancouver's Arts and Culture Advisory Committee, the Chinese-Canadian Museum of BC, the Vancouver International Film Festival, and the National Gallery of Canada.
A member of Council since August 1, 2024, his current appointment ends August 1, 2026.
