Mike Murray retired as the General Manager of Community Development, Parks and Recreation from the City of Maple Ridge in 2010 having had responsibility for Parks, Recreation Programs, Cultural Services, Community Development and Social Planning for over thirty years. During his career he had responsibility for the implementation of a detailed cultural services plan which culminated in the opening of the ACT Arts Centre and Theatre in 2001. The plan also resulted in implementation of the City's Public Art Program. He is most proud of the model relationship developed over many years between the City of Maple Ridge and the MR/PM Arts Council, the current provider of cultural services to citizens in the area. While working in municipal government Mike also served for three years on a Metro Vancouver Regional Cultural Services committee making recommendations to the Regional District Board of Directors. His experience includes being elected to several local and provincial not for profit Boards of Directors including the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Arts Council from 2010 to 2016. He is currently an elected Trustee with School District 42, and a Director on the board of the BC School Trustees Association. He is also an honorary life member of the BC Recreation and Parks Association and the MR/PM Arts Council and a recipient of the British Columbia Community Achievement Award.
A member of Council since 2019, his current appointment ends July 31, 2025.
